Note : Residents of Quebec will also be issued the associated Relevé slips along with the federal tax slips.

When you withdraw funds from a Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF), withholding tax may apply to the portion of the withdrawal that exceeds the minimum annual amount required under tax legislation.

You may be able to reduce the withholding that would otherwise be made by BMO upon a withdrawal from your RRIF by completing Form T1213, Request to Reduce Tax Deductions at Source, and sending this completed form to the CRA. In order to reduce withholding that would otherwise be made by BMO under the Taxation Act (Québec), Québec residents may also submit Form TP-1016, Application for a Reduction in Source Deductions of Income Tax, to Revenu Québec. If the CRA and/or Revenu Québec authorizes the reduction of withholding, you may send this authorization to BMO, and BMO will take steps to implement the reduced withholding in accordance with such authorization(s) as soon as practicable. BMO retains discretion to apply a higher withholding rate if your withdrawals in a given year are inconsistent with the representations made in your request(s) to the CRA and/or Revenu Québec. You generally must submit a new request to the CRA and/or Revenu Québec every year you wish to reduce the withholding that would otherwise be made by BMO from a RRIF withdrawal.

Your tax liability to the CRA is solely your responsibility. The decision to request a reduction in withholding made on a withdrawal from your RRIF is solely in your discretion. If accepted by the CRA and/or Revenu Québec and implemented by BMO, you may owe more taxes to the relevant tax authorities at the end of the tax year because of this request. BMO is not providing you with any tax advice. BMO will not be liable for any tax, interest or penalty which may be imposed on you under any applicable tax legislation, whether by way of assessment, reassessment, or otherwise. You should consider obtaining your own tax or other professional advice before submitting Form T1213 and/or Form TP-1016.
